SOME SURPRISES TO ME

     2)  THAT LIFE EXPACTANCY IS 77.9 YEARS AND IF YOU DON'T SCREW WITH YOUR BODY, AHEALTHY LIFE CAN GO AS LONG AS 66.2 YEARS.

     3)  1 IN 5 PEOPLE IN THE U.S. HAS A DISABILITY, BUT I AM ONE THAT IS NOT GOING TO BE OBESE AND INACTIVE.

10.  EXERCISE FOR HEALTH AND FITNESS

     1)  GETTING MEDICAL CLEARANCE FROM YOUR DOCTOR (EKG) BEFORE STARTING EXERCISE PROGRAM AT GYM.  I BET A MAJORITY DON'T DO THAT FROM GYM AT PALOMAR.

     2)  STATISTIC SAYING THAT 32% OF THE U.S. POPULATION ARE AT A HEALTHY WEIGHT.

     3)  IF I INTENSIFY MY TRAINING, I CAN USE A MEASURABLE AMOUNT OF CELLS TO USE OXYGEN AND IS THE BEST INFLUENCE OF CARDIORESPIRATORY CAPACITY, (VO2max).

9.   NUTRITION BASICS

     1)  EVEN THOUGH THY SAY THAT DIETARY SUPPLEMENT LABELS ARE THOUGHT TO BE SAFE AND "NATURAL", THEY CAN HAVE CHEMICALS THAT CAN BE POTENTIALLY HARMFUL.

     2)  CERTAIN FOODS THAT ARE HIGH IN POTASSIUM ARE ORANGE JUICE, BANANAS, POTATAOES, GREEN VEGETABLES (LEAFY), AND TOMATO SAUCE.

     3)  I NEED TO DRINK 3.7 LITERS OF WATER DAILY, BUT 3.0 LITERS COMING FROM BEVERAGES.  YOU CAN LIVE UP TO 50 DAYS WITHOUT FOOD BUT ONLY A FEW DAYS W/OUT WATER. 

11.   WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

     1)  RESTING METABOLIC RATE (RMR) IS THE REQUIRED ENERGY TO MAINTAIN VITAL BODY FUNCTIONS WHILE MY BODY IS RESTING.

     2)  NOTICED THAT I SHOULD GET A LIPOPROTEIN TEST TO CHECK MY CHOLESTEROL LEVELS EVERY 5 YEARS.  THEY SAID START AT AGE 20, OOPS!,  I'M WAY BEHIND.

     3)  FOUR THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CREATING MY RIGHT WEIGHT, EATING MODERATE AMOUNTS OF HEALTHY FOOD, EXERCISE, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE, THINK POSITIVE AND LEARN TO DEAL WITH MY STRESS FACTOR.

2.     STRESS; THE CONSTANT CHALLENGE

     1)  I THOUGHT MIGRAINE HEADACHES WERE BAD, THERE ARE CLUSTER HEADACHES THAT ARE EVEN WORSE THAT CAUSE INTENSE PAIN IN AND AROUND OONE EYE.  KNOCK ON WOOD, I HAVE NOT HAD ONE.

     2)  PSYCHONEUROIMMUNOLOGY- IT'S A WORD THATS HARD TO SPELL, SO I WILL GO WITH ITS ABBREVIATION (PNI) THAT INTERACTS WITH MY NERVOUS, ENDOCRINE, AND IMMUNE SYSTEMS.

     3)  THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOC. SAYS THAT ABOUT 25% OF AMERICANS EAT FOOD TO HELP BLOCK OOUT THEIR STRESS AND ANXIETY.  I THOUGHT THAT WAS HIGHER.

 3.   PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH

     1)  THE TERM AGORAPHOBIA, AN ANXIETY DISORDER THAT IS BROUGHT ON BY THE FEAR OF BEING ALONE AWAY FROM GETTING ANY HELP, NOT WANTING TO LEAVE THE HOUSE.

     2)  GETTING MYSELF SOME ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING SO I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY "NO" IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS.

     3)  THE ROLE OF EMPHASIZING THE PAST AND OF UNCONSIOUS THOUGHTS AND IMPULSES IN SHAPING PRESENT BEHAVIOUR IS WHAT PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPH CAN HELP ME WITH.

7.    THE USE AND ABUSE OF PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS.

     1)  CLUB DRUGS ARE USED AS "DATE RAPE DRUGS' WHEN ADDED TO BEVERAGES THAT WILL CAUSE THE VICTIM TO BE VULNERABLE WHEN CONSUMED.

     2)  INTERNET ADDICTION HAS BEEN EXTIMATED TO COVER AS MUCH AS 10% OF THE U.S. POPULATION, I DON'T AGREE, I THINK IT IS HIGHER.

     3)  INFORMATION THAT IS LEARNED IN A DRUG INDUCED STATE IS DIFFICULT TO REMEMBER ONCE THE DRUG WEARS OFF IS CALLED STATE DEPENDENCE.  I KNEW WHAT THAT WAS BUT DID NOT KNOW THE ACTUAL NAME FOR IT.

8.    ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

     1)  (FAS), FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME IS A CAUSE OF DEFORMITIES IN BABIES.  I HAD AN ALCOHOLIC BIOLOGICAL MOTHER WHO HAD THE GERMAN MEASELS WHILE CARRYING ME; MY DEFORMITY IS BEING BORN WITH ONLY ONE EAR.

     2)  ACAMPROSATE CONTROLS ABSTINENCE AFTEY PEOPLE HAVE STOPPED DRINKING BY ACTING ON BRAIN PATHWAYS RELATED TO ALCOHOL ABUSE.

     3)  I AM AN ALCOHOLIC AND THE BEST WAY THAT CURED ME WAS TO GO THROUGH A DETOX PROGRAM AND A 23 DAY REHAB FACILITY.  THEY DO REALLY WORK IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT.

  16.  PERSONAL SAFETY

     1)  FOUR CAUSES OF FIRES THAT WERE GIVEN I THOUGHT WERE NOT IN THE RIGHT ORDER.  I THOUGHT SMOKING WAS NO. 1, BUT IT IS BECAUSE OF COOKING, THEN COME PROBLEMS WITH THE HEATING  AND THEN ARSON.

     2)  WHILE LIFTING A HEAVY OBJECT, IF I HAVE TO TURN, I SHOULD CHANGE THE POSITION OF MY FEET, DO NOT TWIST BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS INJURY.

     3)   IN ELDER ABUSE, NEGLECT ACCOUNTS FOR ABOUT 55%  OF CASES, THEN PHYSICAL ABUSE, THEN FINANCIAL EXPLOTATION WHICH IS ABOUT 13%, THESE ARE VERY SAD STATISTICS.
